FRANCE,
A BEAUTIFUL AND HISTORICAL COUNTRY
Come discover the region of "La Lorraine" where I grew up....
The museum of modern contemporary Art opened its doors in 2010 and gave birth to a great revolution in the world of Art. As a matter of fact, it is the first and a very unique type of establishment in France. It is a branch of Pompidou arts centre of Paris, and features semi-permanent and temporary exhibitions from the large collection of the French National Museum of Modern Art, the largest European collection of 20th and 21st century arts.
Since its opening in 2010, it is the most visited museum in France (outside Paris) probably because of its smart location: close to Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. You have an overview of the city from the 3 galleries. It is described as a “cinema landscape” by Emmanuel Martinez, General Manager of the Centre Pompidou.
The building is very different and modern looking. The roof is made of wood and represents a chine hat. It was designed by the very famous Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. Because it is so different looking, it was widely applauded, as well as criticized. Indeed, some describe it as an architecture “chef d’oeuvre” that gives a new energy to the city and that will attract people’s interest and tourism. On the other hand, others completely disapprove it, arguing that its modern look breaks the architecture and violates the local heritage.
The visit is free for the people aged of 26 years old or younger and depending on how many expositions are available the visit could cost 7, 10 or 12 euros.
It is open every day but Tuesday from 11am until 6pm. On Saturday the doors open one hour earlier and close at 8pm.
