The Mettis (Metz transport express) is the new 230 000 euro 2 lined bus rapid transit system project in Metz that recently started running (in 2013). It has had as consequences a deep restructuration of the bus system and well as the transformation, little by little of Metz into a more pedestrian friendly city.
“La place de la Republique” which was a very highly frequented traffic zone is now a pedestrian zone and only the Mettis is allowed to drive there; more than 36000 people a day walk by this place.

Le Mettis
Just like the centre Pompidou, the design of the Mettis was important for the city of Metz; it is a perfect mix between modernity and history. It seems like it’s impossible to get everyone happy and on the same page. Some people believe that the city is no longer recognizable because it has been transformed too much. Others see it as a very efficient step forward in history because it is now easier to get form one point to another and the car is now no longer useful to get through the city but also as a modern and colorful touch to the city. For Metz, it is definitely more than only a public transportation project, it is a new mind set for a very old fashioned city.
