Handball is an Olympic sport that was created in 1919, at first it was played 11 against 11 but nowadays it is played 7 against 7. The first Olympic game was played in 1972 for men and 1976 for women. It is a sport that is mostly played in Europe but also in Asia and South America.

 

Metz has one of the best feminine team in France or we could even say the best team in France over the years. They won the division 1 championship 19 times, the French cup 6 times and the European cup (“coupe de la Ligue”) 8 times. They have several players that got selected to play with the French national team, who actually won the Olympic game in 2014, and all the players are professional. They play in a gym called “Les arènes” that holds 4700 seats. It is not always full but for the big Europeans games the gym gets pretty loud. Female’s sports are usually not as popular as male’s sports but the fact that this team has been so good for this long makes the whole city more involved in girls sports.
